Mission statement

The mission of East Coast Gestalt is to promote the application of Gestalt theory and practice, to educate competent Gestalt Practitioners and investigate the theoretical ground of Gestalt Practice

In fulfilling this mission, the Institute provides educational programs of excellence which emphasise the experiential nature of learning, theory and practice, personal growth, supervision and professional development. This is, and the promotion of open intellectual enquiry and scholarly engagement.

East Coast Gestalt is fully committed to providing a secure and supportive environment for teaching and learning, and upholding the principles of free intellectual inquiry in all research and investigation in order to operate optimally within the Higher Education arena.

The design of this program is guided by the central belief in the wholeness of human experience and the responsibility of all participants, leaders and trainees, for their own personal growth, integrity and ongoing professional development.

As a higher educational institution, East Coast Gestalt aims at providing the highest standards of practice in the teaching-learning environment, and in the administration of the program.

The Board of Governance

The Board of Governance (BoG) provides the overall governance for East Coast Gestalt (ECG) and its member centres, including all academic functions. It meets twice a year.

Terms of Reference

To oversee and govern the administrative and academic functioning of ECGI and consult with the Finance Committee on financial matters as appropriate.

The BoG has the authority to establish and implement basic policies in conjunction with agents and relevant accreditation bodies such as GANZ and PACFA, to carry out ECGI' s mission.

The BoG has the authority to review these basic policies in conjunction with agents and relevant accreditation bodies, which empower ECGI to carry out the it' s mission.

The BoG shall have the overarching responsibility for ensuring standards of the academic curriculum and course delivery of ECGI and its agents by monitoring graduate outcomes and quality of learning commensurate with a Post Graduate Diploma standard.

The BoG shall review academic policies submitted/ approved by the Academic Board and approve assessments, results and processes

The BoG shall oversee and monitor the regular course reviews and quality management projects of ECGI.

The Academic Board

Terms of Reference

The Academic Board of ECGI shall:

  • consider, overview and implement student progress and assessment policies to ensure they meet expected outcomes
  • approve course documentation
  • examine appeals processes
  • review courses
  • monitor resource acquisitions including library holdings
  • hold faculty meetings with teaching staff
  • oversee policies and implementation professional development
  • monitor the design, implementation and evaluation of the course,  ensuring that quality is maintained by conducting cross-institution surveys; evaluating feedback received from such surveys
  • oversee the implementation of the policies approved by the BoG
